The South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) held "Welfare to Work" job fair for Family Independence and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or Food Stamp) clients at the Florence County Library Tuesday.
More than 200 people came out to apply for jobs.
"We're trying to get people back in the workforce and having a job fair kind of matches employers that have the openings and people looking for work. Some people that's been out a period of time they can brush their skills up to get them back into the workforce," said Larry Addison, Florence County DSS.
About 14 companies took part in the job fair.
Welfare recipients have been going through mandatory job training throughout the year. They learn interviewing skills and resume writing.
"So this job fair gives them an opportunity to see what employers are in the area, who's hiring, what they need to do to get themselves better prepared to go to work, " Addison explained.
DSS plans to sponsor more job fairs in the coming weeks.
