The U.S. Postal Service will hold a public meeting Monday, December 19th to discuss its proposal to move mail processing operations from the Florence Processing and Distribution Facility into the Columbia Processing and Distribution Center.
The USPS says its seen a deep decline in mail volume as more people turn to the internet.
The agency started a study on September 15th at the Florence Processing and Distribution Facility to determine if moving the mail processing operation out of the Florence post office would be more efficient and save money.
The USPS says initial study results support the idea of consolidating the mail processing operations at the Columbia Processing and Distribution Center.
At the meeting, Postal Service managers will give an overview of the reasons for the proposal and allow the community to voice comments and concerns.
A summary of the proposal and presentation materials will be made available online one week prior to the meeting at http://about.usps.com/streamlining-operations/area-mail-processing.htm.
The meeting is set for Monday, December 19th at 6:30 in the West Florence High School Auditorium.
