Officials with Coast Guard Sector Charleston say rescue crews responded to reports of a boat taking on water near McClellanville.

The location of the 30-foot boat, the USCG says, was 40 miles off of Bulls Bay, south of McClellanville on Thursday.

They say the vessel was located and was being towed in to Charleston. A spokesperson at Coast Guard Sector Charleston says the boat never went under water.

One person was on the vessel. That person was said to be safe.

Officials say the Coast Guard Cutter Steelhead and Cutter Chinook were dispatched to assist, along with a helicopter and another rescue boat from Georgetown.

The distress signal was reported shortly after 10 p.m. on Thursday, officials say.
