Two wanted for weekend murder in Horry County

Horry County police have identified two suspects wanted for the murder of Jose Gutierez, 20, of Myrtle Beach, Friday evening.

Police say Shelton Lathal Butler Jr., 21, and Donavon Curtis Johnson, 19, both of Conway, were involved in the shooting in front of a home on Ron McNair Boulevard near the Highway 31 overpass around 8:30 p.m. Friday.

According to an incident report, the person who called 9-1-1 said a man was shot and several women took the man from the scene in a vehicle.

The officer who first arrived on scene found fresh blood, a cell phone, and a sneaker on the street.

A witness in a nearby house told police she heard a shot and her grandson came in the house crying that someone had been hurt. She said she later learned the person who was shot was her daughter's boyfriend, Gutierez.

She said she heard they were taking him to Conway Medical Center.

The officer called the hospital and found out Gutierez had shown up with a gunshot wound and died at 9:15 p.m.

Butler is described as being 6' tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds.

Johnson is further described as being 5'6" tall and weighing approximately 135 pounds.

Police have warrants for both men on murder charges.

Police say the case is still open and additional suspects may be identified.
