Two suspects indicted for shooting CCU student

Marquis Spencer McDonald

An Horry County Grand Jury indicted Marquis Spencer McDonald, 20, and Stephon Mclain, Jr., 22, both of Conway for a deadly shooting at Coastal Carolina University on February 26.

McDonald and Mclain were each indicted on a murder charge.

Anthony Liddell, 19, a sophomore, was shot in front of University Place apartments and died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

At an arraignment for Mclain, Solicitor Jimmy Richardson informed him of the penalty the charge of Murder carries, which is 30 years to life in prison.

The arrest warrant for McDonald says McDonald agreed to meet Liddell at the residence hall. It says Mclain shot Liddell three times.

It says Mclain and McDonald were together both before and after the shooting.

The warrant states McDonald admits to being there during the shooting and that Mclain fired the shots.

Liddell was sophomore from Bennettsville, majoring in sports medicine at CCU.

Mclain is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. McDonald is being held at the Florence County Detention Center.
