A death investigation is underway after two teenage girls died from a fall on Wednesday at a Myrtle Beach hotel, according to Lt. Joey Crosby with Myrtle Beach police and Horry County Coroner Robert Edge.

Daniela Alejandra Arriaza Flores, 16, and Amber Franco 17, died due to massive trauma from a fall, according to Edge. Both attended Myrtle Beach High School.

The coroner said the girls fell from the top floor of the hotel, which he believes is about 19 stories high. One body was found on the parking deck on the tenth floor, according to Edge. He said the other was found on top of a restaurant, around the second floor.

Edge said the manner of death is still under investigation.

The initial call came in at 3:46 p.m for two people who had fallen from Camelot by the Sea, Crosby said.

When police arrived at the oceanfront hotel, near 20th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach, they found two people dead.

He said police are investigating the deaths.

"At this time the preliminary investigation doesn't appear to have any suspicious circumstances surrounding it," Crosby said. "However, we are working to determine exactly what happened."

Officials at Myrtle Beach High School, including the principal John Washburn, and a crisis response team of additional counselors, are "addressing to the needs of students as they process the shocking and heartbreaking news about the loss of two classmates," according to Horry County Schools spokeswoman Teal Britton.

At this time, no memorial service is planned because the district's practice "is to allow the students in a school to plan memorial services or tributes to honor their peers. This helps as a part of the healing process," Britton said.

She said because Spring Break begins at the close of school on Friday, a student-led memorial service or tribute may come after Spring Break.

We will update this story as more information comes in.
