Two charged with attacking worker at Marion County store
Marion County, SC (WPDE) —
James Rubin Bellamy, 32, and Antonio Phillips, 31, have been arrested in connection with assaulting a man Thursday at M&M Mart on South Highway 9 in the Gresham area of Marion County, according to Marion County Sheriff Brian Wallace.
Wallace said they assaulted the man then stole a quantity of liquor from the store.
The 63-year-old man's family said he's in serious condition at the hospital.
The incident was initially reported to us as a shooting.
Bellamy is charged with strong arm robbery, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and unlawful sale of liquor.
Phillips is charged with accessory after the fact to felony A, B, C, or murder and unlawful sale of liquor.
Sheriff Brian Wallace released the following statement on the investigation.
"This was an inexcusably attack upon a working member of our community. It’s a shame these criminals try to take the easy road and rob and steal from hard working people. My deputies will work endlessly to help direct criminals towards a better path or hold them accountable.”
Bellamy and Phillips are being held in the Marion County Detention Center.
