Two-alarm fire burning in Horry County
Wed, 02 Feb 2011 20:03:10 GMT —
Horry County Fire-Rescue spokesperson Leslie Yancey says firefighters are battling a two-alarm fire. There are more than a dozen units on scene, including EMS, though Yancey says there are no injuries.
Fire fighters responded at around 2 p.m. Wednesday to D & R Auto Body and Paint at 331 Highway 471. That's off Highway 905 before you get to Highway 22 heading out of Conway.
What was left of the building was unfit to stand on its own and began to slowly crumble. As a result, a bulldozer was brought to the scene and crews are tearing down the auto body structure down as it has been deemed unsafe to stand.
Employees say they were able to save all the cars at the shop, except two because those tow did not have tires on them at the time of the fire and were not mobile.
SC Highway Patrol temporarily shut down Highway 471.
