Troopers need help finding driver who hit moped

Troopers are looking for a 2006-2011 Honda Civic 4dr, dark in color, with noticeable damage to the front of the vehicle.

The driver of a moped who was struck Tuesday night in Pawleys Island by a motorist has died, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Patrick Loper, 57, of Pawleys Island was involved in an earlier wreck and was in the road on U.S. Highway 17 in Georgetown County when a vehicle hit him and took off just after 11 p.m. Tuesday night, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins with South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Loper died at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in the wreck.

Troopers believe the car involved in the hit and run is a 2006-2011 Honda Civic, possibly with four doors. They were not sure of the color of the car.

Collins said they want to hear from anyone with tips "no matter how small."
