Timmonsville set to restore its police department

Timmonsville Mayor Darrick Jackson says the town will restore its police department

by hiring two part-time officers to patrol the streets of Timmonsville.

Town council shutdown its police department last May saying they could no longer afford to operate it.

Florence County Sheriff's Office provided coverage for the town.

Some residents said disbanding the police force was the worst thing council could have done.

n May of 2013

the sheriff's office says it responded to 2,148 calls for service originating from within the town limits of Timmonsville.

At least half of the calls for service resulted in written reports.

Jackson says they hope to have the police department back in operation by the end of the year.
