Three men are in custody following a sexual assault that occurred in Surfside Beach on Saturday, according to a press release from the Surfside Beach Police Department.
James Wesley Starks, Jr., 30, of North Charleston, Timothy Starks, 28, of St. Stephens and Sherwood Edward Johnson, 28 of Ladson, have all been arrested and charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree, Kidnapping, and Strong Armed Robbery.
Around 3:38 a.m. Saturday, Surfside Beach officers were dispatched to a convenience store where the victim walked to report the crime.
The victim stated that she met the three suspects at a club in Myrtle Beach, and asked them for a ride home from the club.
The suspects drove the victim against her will to a location within Surfside Beach where the assault and robbery occurred. After the assault took place, the suspects fled the area and took the victims purse and personal belongings with them.
Surfside Beach Police officials notified surrounding agencies of the car and suspect descriptions.
The car and occupants were located during a traffic stop in Georgetown by Georgetown Police and Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, and taken into custody without further incident.
James Starks and Timothy Starks are each being held on a $45,000 bond, and Johnson is being held on a $60,000 bond.
All three men are being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Horry County.
