Runners across the Grand Strand hit the streets for the 13.1 mile run in the Myrtle Beach Mini-Marathon Sunday morning.
The race kicked off at 7 a.m. and had around 3,500 people participating. Hundreds more turned out for this year's race.
"Around 3,500 people participated in the race, which is about 500 more people than last year," said Robert Pozo, race director.
The race started at Coastal Grand Mall and ended at Plyler Park. The new 2013 course featured over five miles of oceanfront running.
This year's theme was surfing related. Surfboard medals and surf style bands were distributed. Everyone who finished got a finishers medal.
There was also a post-race beach party with surf style bands.
Racers had three and a half hours to complete the race. The first runner finished in an hour and 14 minutes.
The race will be held again next year October 19, 2014.
