The Bush sisters discuss women's leadership in Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach, S.C. (WPDE) —
Former President George W. Bush's twin daughters were in Myrtle Beach Tuesday.
Barbara Pierce Bush and sister Jenna Bush Hager gave personal and motivational stories at the Women's Leadership Conference hosted by the Women in Philanthropy and Leadership for Coastal Carolina University.
"It's amazing to see so many talented women get together and empower one another," said Bobbei Ruswinckel, a Myrtle Beach woman who attends the conference every year.
Myrtle Beach Convention Center was filled with nearly 800 women - leaders, volunteers, entrepreneurs, moms, or all of the above. Like Ruswinckel, who is starting her own business.
"I have two kids under the age of three so it can be very time consuming, and they are my life and my world," she said.
At the Women's Leadership Conference, she met and heard from others who can relate to her journey of juggling work life and personal life. She said she got motivated by keynote speakers Barbara Pierce Bush and sister Jenna Bush Hager, daughters of former President George W. Bush.
"They were fabulous and extraordinary, and they really showed us that having a co-person to lean on, that counter part, is really important," said Ruswinckel.
The event is meant to inspire and empower, and it's working.
"They're showing that we are women. We can rule, balance life, and control it. We're handling it," said Debora Gause, a manager at Walmart who attended the conference Tuesday.
Together, they're motivated to be strong, bring success, and not just balance, but enhance.
"That your work-life should enhance your personal life and vice versa," said Ruswinckel. "And I think that's everybody's goal is to be able to be successful and happy and feel like your time is being dedicated to the people that you love, and that also empowers you to do the things that you love."
This year's crowd was the largest since the conference started in 2011.
