Family court officials decided a 15-year-old Marion County boy who deputies say tried to strangle an 80-year-old woman will stay in custody at the SC Department of Juvenile Justice.
The woman was visiting her husband's grave at Red Hill Cemetery in Mullins Friday when she was nearly strangled, according to Marion County deputies.
She got into her car to leave, and deputies say a 15-year-old hiding the back seat put a power cord around her neck and tried to strangle her.
The woman honked her horn and alerted a man and a woman at the cemetery. The man ran towards the car, and the 15-year-old ran from the car, deputies say.
The man followed the teen and told deputies where he went.
Deputies arrested the 15-year-old and charged him with Attempted Murder.
We can't reveal his identity because of his age.
The boy will appear for another detention hearing in two weeks.
