Teen ticketed for hitting St. James student with car

Highway Patrol ticketed an 18-year-old driver Monday for driving too fast for conditions after she struck a St. James student walking on Highway 707 last month.

Troopers say a car lost control and hit a 15-year-old Saint James High School student, as she was walking home along Highway 707 at Vestry Drive in Murrells Inlet on October 25.

Horry County school officials say the girl is a freshman at St. James High School, a little more than 3 miles away from the site of the accident.

The girl was hospitalized.

A friend of the girl's family said the teenager was in intensive care, with her parents by her side the day after the accident.
