SWAT officers in standoff with man in Socastee Home

UPDATED: Horry County police say a standoff with a man in a Socastee area home is over

According to Horry County police spokesman Sgt. Robert Kegler, officers responded to an assault and attempted sexual assault complaint at 4:45 p.m. on Aquarius Drive in Myrtle Beach.

Kegler says the male suspect was gone from the scene upon the officers' arrival.

Officers responded to the Laurel Woods neighborhood in Socastee to look for him.

Kegler says while looking for the suspect's house, officers heard what sounded like muffled gun shots coming from the direction of his house.

Horry County police set up a perimeter and SWAT and negotiators on the scene tried to communicated with him. When they didn't get a response, SWAT entered the home and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound but still alive. He has been taken to the hospital.
