Suspended Chesterfield County Sheriff sued on eve of his criminal trial

A civil lawsuit has been filed against suspended Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker on the eve of his criminal trial for charges of Embezzlement, five counts of Misconduct In Office and Furnishing Contraband To Inmates.

Parker will face trial on those charges Monday at the Chesterfield County Courthouse.

He's now named in a civil lawsuit filed by Edward Wright,74, against the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office, Acting Sheriff Robert L. Lee, Detective Staff Sergeant Wayne Jordan and Corporal Chuck Mixon.

Wright is suing the department following his arrest on June 14,2012.

The suit is based on the grounds of false imprisonment, battery, false arrest, gross negligence and assault.

Wright is seeking actual and punitive damages.

He's being represented by attorney M.W. Cockrell, III of Chesterfield County.

It could be more than a year before this case heads to trial.
