CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A Mount Pleasant man who was slapped by the Charleston County sheriff after a 25-mile chase has been sentenced to more than two years in prison after pleading guilty.
Thirty-two-year-old Timothy McManus was sentenced to 30 months in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to failure to stop for police and being a habitual traffic offender.
Sheriff's deputies say McManus led deputies on a chase in January 2012 that included the sideswiping of Sheriff Al Cannon's vehicle. Deputies stopped McManus after a 25 mile chase that ended in the Francis Marion National Forest.
An angry Cannon slapped McManus across the face as he sat handcuffed in the backseat of a cruiser. Cannon was not charged.
Sheriff's Maj. Jim Brady said Cannon had no comment on the sentence.
