Suspect escapes police custody, reward offered

Conway Police have issued warrants for Donavon Curtis Johnson, 19, of Conway for Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana, two counts of Resisting Arrest, Possession of Stolen Property and Petit Larceny.

Johnson is also wanted for Attempted Murder, Burglary 1st Degree, Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime, Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons Unlawful and Kidnapping in connection with a shooting on Maple Avenue on May 9.

On Wednesday, around 1:30 a.m., Conway Police officers were sent to an area off Singleton Street and Whittemore Street in reference to shots fired in the area.

Once on scene, officers found Johnson hiding behind some bushes. When officers tried to approach Johnson he jumped a fence and ran.

Officers were able to catch Johnson behind a home on Wright Blvd and place him under arrest.

Johnson was carrying a backpack, which contained a handgun, mask, and several sandwich bags.

Johnson was then transported to the Conway Police Satellite Station where he was questioned about the shooting.

When officers were attempting to place Johnson back in the patrol car for transport to the detention center, Johnson was able to break away and fled the area.

A $500 reward has been offered for information that leads to Johnson's arrest.
