Conway Police have arrested Dajon Saheem Gamble, 17, of Conway and charged him with Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Assault and Battery with the Intent to Kill, and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime in connection with the April 28, 2009 armed robbery of a taxi cab driver.
On Tuesday, April 28, 2009, shortly after 1:00 a.m. Conway Police officers responded to Brown Street in Conway after getting a report that a taxi cab had collided with a utility pole.
When officers spoke with the driver of the vehicle who reported to them that she received a phone call to pick up people in the area of Whittemore Street. She received a second call advising her that the people would be at the intersection of Brown Street and Whittemore Street.
The driver stated that when she arrived at the location two black men got into the back of the cab, one of them grabbed her around the neck, held a knife to her throat and demanded money while the other man repeatedly punched her in the face.
The victim said she feared for her life so she pushed the gas pedal to the floor accelerating down Brown Street until the vehicle collided with a utility pole.
The driver was taken to Conway Medical Center by ambulance and was later taken to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for treatment.
On Monday June 15, 2009 Conway Police received a call from Dajon Gamble. He told police officers that he was wanted and then told them his location. Officers responded to the location and arrested Gamble without incident.
Gamble appeared before Judge Jane Mackey Tuesday morning for a bond hearing and received a $25,000 surety bond on the charge of Armed Robbery, a $10,000 surety bond on the charge of Kidnapping, a $20,000 surety bond on the charge of Assault and Battery with the Intent to Kill, and a $5,000 surety bond on the charge of Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime
