Surfside Beach Town Council members awarded a contract and lease to rent the pier restaurant space.
Atlantic Restaurant Group, LLC. signed the $50,000 lease for 2012 Monday morning, according to Surfside Beach Mayor Allen Deaton.
It now has three days to apply for the proper business permits. Deaton said as soon as that step is completed, renovations of the restaurant space will begin in hopes of having it open for the upcoming tourist season.
The Surf Restaurant will be owned and operated by Bill Howard and Shawn Roth. Between them, they have more than 60 years of experience in the restaurant industry.
Dcor for the Surf Restaurant will feature wood accented construction, popular beach music will be played inside and meals will be moderately priced. Grilled and fried selections of shrimp, fish, chicken, burgers and pizza will be a few things on the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The restaurant space has been vacant (http://www.carolinalive.com/news/story.aspx?id=621938#.TxRRMIHVbMA) since December 2010, when town council didn't award a new contract to Nibil's restaurant. Because the town owns the pier, it's required by law to put the restaurant up for bid.
