Police chief on administrative leave while SLED investigates Lamar Police Department
Lamar, S.C. (WPDE) —
Agents with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) were in Lamar Friday afternoon investigating allegations involving the Lamar Police Department, according to SLED Spokesman Thom Berry.
Berry said SLED got a request this week from the mayor of Lamar to investigate the police department and they've accepted the request.
He said, at this time, that is all the information that he can provide.
Lamar Police Chief Jason Chaney is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to Lamar Mayor Randy Reynolds.
Reynolds didn't elaborate on the specifics of the investigation, saying he'll comment at the appropriate time.
He said state police will be back at the department next week to continue the investigation.
Reynolds said the Darlington County Sheriff's Office will help cover the town since they're down one officer for the time being.
