State leaders: SC will work to bring in 777X

CHARLESTON, S.C.- South Carolina lawmakers say they will try to bring Boeing's production of a new 777X jet to the state.

That's after the machinists union in Washington state this week rejected a contract that would have kept the work there.

Three other locations where Boeing has plants have been mentioned for the work including Long Beach, California, Salt Lake City, Utah and Huntsville, Alabama.

Boeing has a North Charleston plant that makes 787s and this week broke ground on a plant that will make jet engine parts.

House Speaker Bobby Harrell tells The Post and Courier of Charleston that the union vote puts South Carolina in the mix for the plant.

Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell tells WCSC-TV that he's confident state lawmakers will make Boeing a competitive offer.
