South Carolina wins Shrine Bowl 28-23 over North Carolina

Dillon's Joe Blue scored a touchdown for South Carolina in a 28-23 over North Carolina.

The South Carolina All-Stars scored on a Mason Rudolph 20-yard TD pass to Gaffney product Shaquille Davidson with 16 seconds left in the game to beat the North Carolina All-Stars 28-23 in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

Rudolph, from Northwestern High, completed 15 of 22 passes for 182 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Dillon High's Joe Blue scored on a touchdown run to give South Carolina a brief lead 21-17 early in the fourth quarter. North Carolina answered to retake the lead 23-21.

On South Carolina's final drive, they elected to go for it on fourth and one in North Carolina territory, rather than to try a game-winning field goal by Alex Spence from West Florence.

Spence got to kick the final point of the game, an extra point, after Davidson's deciding TD grab.

A total of 10 players from the WPDE All-Zone team competed in the Shrine Bowl, played at Gibbs Stadium on the Wofford College campus in Spartanburg.

South Carolina leads the all-time series against North Carolina in the Shrine Bowl 43-29-4.
