The Northeastern Strategic Alliance (NESA), announced Wednesday that Sonoco, in Darlington County, is South Carolina's largest corporation in terms of sales.
NESA is a regional economic development organization that serves nine counties in the northeastern portion of the state.
Sonoco is a global packaging company located in Hartsville.
"Sonoco's sales were up 9% in 2011 reaching approximately $4.5 billion. The Darlington County based company is projecting sales growth to approximately $5 billion in 2012 and is optimistic that it will be listed among the Fortune 500 in 2012. Sonoco was ranked 519 on the Fortune 1000 list in 2011," according to NESA.
"We are extremely proud that a company in our region has, in terms of sales, become the largest corporation in the State," said Jeff McKay, NESA executive director. "This is further evidence that the NESA region is a top notch place to do business. NESA will work diligently to ensure other companies take notice of Sonoco's success so that we can continue bringing jobs to the NESA region."
