School leaders in Florence District One have launched an early childhood program called the Start SMART School Readiness Initiative.
The program helps parents and guardians get the information they need to make sure their child is on track to be ready to start school.
The program includes parenting programs and preschool programs.
Through the program, educators hope to increase the number of children entering kindergarten with early learning skills, encourage parents to read to their preschool age children at least four times a month, provide high quality training for teachers of young children in the Florence area at child care centers, home child care facilities, schools and private education centers, increase the number of high quality child development facilities throughout FSD1, provide child development information to all families with young children, increase community awareness of high quality preschool education at home and at school, and assist businesses as they seek to offer family/children friendly policies, according to a district news release.
