A small plane crashed on Fox Hollow Road near Hartsville killing three people according to the Darlington County Sheriffs Office.
Three people died in the crash, two from Darlington County and another from out of town, according to Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee.
The pilot called air traffic controllers at 6:45 p.m. about landing gear problems. He tried to make to Hartsville airport when the plane crashed at 6:55 p.m according to Sheriff Wayne Byrd.
The plane was a Lancair IV-P aircraft with three persons on board, according to the FAA.
The victims families have been notified and names will be released at a later time, Sheriff Byrd added. Their bodies are being removed from the wreckage.
The wreckage will stay intact so that it can be reviewed by the The Federal Aviation Administration.
The FAA released a preliminary statement saying: "The FAA and the NTSB will investigate, and the NTSB will determine probable cause."
Federal investigators are expected to begin their investigation Sunday morning.
