Atlantic Beach Police Chief Mike Bordner says agents with the State Law Enforcement Division were at the Atlantic Beach Town Hall Thursday morning in reference to a case.
Chief Bordner said he couldn't be specific about which case, and he referred us to SLED's public information officer, Kathryn Richardson. Richardson told us agents were at the town hall for an "investigation in reference to allegations against the former town manager." Richardson would not confirm a name, but we have learned Benny Webb is no longer Atlantic Beach's town manager as of Thursday.
Bordner says the locks at town hall were changed because Webb is no longer with the town.
But Councilman Jake Evans says Webb's resignation has not been accepted, so the locks should not have been changed. Webb returned to town hall this afternoon.
Evans also says two temporary staff members and another employee who were fired by Webb were back at work Thursday.
The finance committee, made up of councilwomen Carolyn Cole and Windy Price, is expected to meet at 10 a.m. Friday. Evans and Mayor Retha Pierce are expected to attend.
