SkyWheel tickets now on sale

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel on Ocean Boulevard Friday morning.

The SkyWheel Myrtle Beach has officially started spinning. Myrtle Beach city leaders held a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday Morning to welcome the new wheel.

The SkyWheel operators describe the rides as "flights" and offer different options. There are regular gondolas and a VIP gondola.

The ferris wheel on the ocean will offer adult tickets (ages 12-54) for $12, children's tickets (ages 3-11) for $8 and discounts of $4 for seniors and military personnel. Children 2 and under are free.

SkyWheel Myrtle Beach has 42 Swiss-manufactured fully-enclosed gondolas. The company says each gondola is climate-controlled and comfortably seats up to six people.

The gondolas have special non-reflective glass to provide for better picture or video taking of the landscape.

We're told each "flight" lasts about 12 minutes.

And for those who just choose to look at SkyWheel Myrtle Beach, we're told it will have a "state-of-the-art computer-generated lighting system with over one million LED lights, creating an amazing light show each evening after sunset."
