Skywheel spins for first time

For the first time, the new Myrtle Beach Skywheel has been seen spinning.

Engineers with Seattle-based International Leisure Consulting says they were testing the final wiring with drive system Sunday afternoon.

42 gondolas were attached to the giant ferris wheel on Friday and Saturday. The swiss-made enclosures will be climate-controlled, and includes one VIP gondola with a glass bottom.

The ferris wheel is the largest east of the Mississippi River.

It's going up at the end of the boardwalk and set to open May 17th or 18th, operators say.
