The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office arrested two men in connection with a shoplifting incident at the Wal-Mart on North Fraser Street in Georgetown.
Christopher McWhite, 24, and James Gamble, 27, both of Fayetteville, NC, were in a black Dodge Avenger around 4:40 a.m. on January 12 with two other suspects when deputies were alerted that the group had stolen items from the Wal-Mart, according to sheriff's office spokesperson Carrie Cuthbertson.
The Avenger appeared to be stopping for police when the driver turned into the Tractor Supply parking lot and accelerated toward the rear of the building, but the suspects lost control and crashed head on into the building, Cuthbertson said.
Four people ran out of the car and into the woods.
Two were arrested a short time later and two remain on the run.
McWhite and Gamble were turned over to the City of Georgetown Police Department and were charged with shoplifting more than $2,000 but less than $10,000.
Georgetown Police Captain Nelson Brown said the group was responsible for breaking into the cabinets at Wal-Mart and stealing iPads, iPods, and computers.
