A Robeson County man, wanted on a charge of Murder in the death of his wife, has shot and killed himself, according to Robeson County Sheriff Ken Sealey.
James Ellinger, 48, shot and killed himself just as deputies in Harnett County tried to enter a home he was holed up in just after noon Tuesday
Ellinger was about to be charged in the murder of his wife, Jennifer Ellinger, 42.
Sealey says James shot and killed Jennifer at a friend's home on Highway 301 in St. Pauls Monday night.
The couple had been legally separated for quite some time, according to Sealey.
Jennifer Ellinger worked in the records division at the Robeson County Sheriff's Office for three years.
"She was a very good worker. I been knowing her practically all of her life. Every time you see Jennifer, she always had a smile on her face and had something pleasant to say. She loved her job and the people she worked with," said Sealey.
