Second suspect caught after shots fired at troopers

Two suspects are in custody after a manhunt just north of Conway near Highway 22 and Rt. 319.

The incident started when a Highway Patrolman tried to pull a vehicle over around 6:00 Saturday night, said Trooper Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The driver sped off and at least one of the people in the vehicle started shooting at the trooper.

The vehicle eventually stopped and two people got out, again firing at troopers. They returned fire and took one of the people into custody. The other person ran into the woods.

Horry County police, sheriff's deputies, SWAT officers and Highway Patrol searched the area around Rt. 319 and Highway 22, for more than three hours and eventually caught the second suspect.
