Schools put on lockdown for manhunt in Florence County

Deputies with the Florence County Sheriff's Office have called off their search of a wooded area south of Pamplico near Salem Road for a person of interest wanted for questioning in the disappearance of a missing person.

The manhunt first began around 10 a.m. Friday morning and was called off around 6:30 p.m. Police have not located the person of interest and will continue patrolling the area.

Florence School District Two officials urged parents to pick up their children at the normal dismissal time instead of letting them ride the bus home while police searched for the man on the run.

Deputies said they stopped a car the man was riding in, and he ran out of the car and into the woods.

Florence School District 2 Superintendent Robert Sullivan said his schools were put on lockdown.

Smith said he was not sending school buses in the area of Salem Road where deputies were searching.

Parents of students that ride Bus Routes number 2 and number 8 in these community areas were asked to assist in transporting their children home on Friday.

We will post more information as it becomes available.
