COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party has quit his post to take a job with the Republican National Committee.
Executive director Alex Stroman says Chad Connelly submitted his resignation on Saturday during a meeting of the party's executive committee.
Connelly was re-elected to a second two-year term last month. The Newberry businessman was first elected state chairman in May 2011, and details on his new job were not immediately available.
Also Saturday, state party leaders selected former GOP executive director Matt Moore to take over as chairman. Moore left the party earlier this year to serve as state director for U.S. Sen. Tim Scott.
