Grand opening for ADA approved Savannah's Playground set for Saturday
Myrtle Beach, S.C. (WPDE) —
Savannah's Playground in Myrtle Beach will have its grand opening Labor Day weekend.
It's ready for families to enjoy, and the specially-designed playground is extra special for one person: It's namesake Savannah Thompson.
The musical park is Savannah's favorite part of the new playground in Myrtle Beach named after her.
"It's awesome," said Savannah.
The park features ADA-approved equipment and is sensory friendly, wheelchair friendly and, well, everyone friendly.
"Both special needs children and able bodied children can play together," said Lance Thompson, Savannah's dad. "Adults, children, whole families can be here."
From slides to swings, the enabling playground encourages people to play, interact and release that inner kid.
"I do think it's the happiest place in Myrtle Beach now," said Marjorie Thompson, Savannah's mom. "We look forward to it and look forward to see all the folks out here enjoying it like we've been able to so far."
"We're just excited to unveil this facility to the entire community," said Lance Thompson.
Savannah said she's looking forward to a big crowd for the grand opening this Saturday, September 3 at 10 a.m.
The park is located next to Crabtree Gym at Grand Park at The Market Commons and everyone is invited.
