Santaâ??s helpers, fire department spread holiday cheer in Myrtle Beach

On Sunday
, the city of Myrtle Beach got a special visit from several of Santa Clausâ?? helpers and the Myrtle Beach fire department.

Santaâ??s helpers traveled by fire truck, instead of sleigh, around city neighborhoods spreading holiday cheer since the big man in red will get busy this time of year at the North Pole.

Chris Farrell, a newcomer to the Myrtle Beach area, was inside his house, with his family, when he heard the fire sirens.

This is his first time spending the holidays down South and said these special visits remind him of home.

â??It really reminded me of home. Because back home in Long Island, they did this for the kids every year, and it was great. It got everyone in the Christmas mood. Santa Claus would give out candy canes,â?? Farrell said.

However, the man in the jolly red suit who passed out candy canes to Farrell and his family is more than one of Santaâ?? helpers. For 20 years, he has been a dedicated engineer with the Myrtle Beach Fire Department.

This was his 21st year acting as Santa.
