A fire at Ken Baker Salvage on Highway 501 in Marion County burned 10 cars Tuesday morning, according to Marion City Fire Chief Trey Cooper.
Cooper said employees were doing a controlled burn of some debris, when it got out of hand.
Workers called the city fire department to say one car was on fire.
Cooper said by the time they got on scene, the fire had spread to nine other cars.
It took crews about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.
Employees said they had already stripped the valuable parts off the cars to be sold and the vehicles were waiting to be crushed.
The value of the cars was about $5,000, they said.
Marion Rural and Mullins City Fire Departments assisted in the fire.
