Rusty Smith up for Florence County administrator job

According to the agenda for Thursday's Florence County Council meeting, council will negotiate a contract of employment between the County and Rusty Smith to fill the position of county administrator.

Smith is the current Florence County Council Chairman who represents District 1 on council, and his term expires in December 2014.

Smith is being considered for the position after the resignation of Thomas Robinson Friday.

Council says they evaluated Robinson without Smith being present and found that he didn't reach their expectations.

Robinson was hired in October of 2011 out of Rockingham, NC.

Smith was up for the position in 2011, but he withdrew his name for consideration, saying it was in the best interest of the council and the community.

Florence County Treasurer Dean Fowler, Jr. and Coroner Bubba Matthews filed a lawsuit to stop Smith from being named to the position and to clarify if Smith was eligible.
