Robeson County high school student charged in death of fellow teen
Jason O'Neil Bass, 17, is charged with voluntary manslaughter in last week's shooting death of Zachary Meares, 17, on West Broad Street between the Burger King and BP gas station in the St. Pauls area of Robeson County, according to St. Pauls Police Chief Thomas Hagens.
Hagens said the two were friends at one point.
He didn't release a motive in the shooting.
Hagens said Bass is a student at Lumberton High School.
He added investigators are trying to find out where Bass got a gun and are doing traces on the weapon.
Bass is scheduled to appear before a judge Tuesday morning for his initial appearance.
He is being held at the Robeson County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.
