A section of Interstate 95 in Darlington County is now dedicated to Lance Corporal Jacob Ham, Jr., a South Carolina Highway Patrolman who died in the line of duty on February 8, 1998.
Lance Corporal Ham was on duty when he suffered a heart attack and died as he was trying to subdue and arrest a suspect during a traffic stop.
Lance Corporal Ham was a twelve year veteran of the Patrol.
The section of I-95 dedicated to him is between mile markers 166 and 167.
A ceremony was held in his honor today at Cornerstone Baptist Church.
