Road dedicated to fallen Horry County officer

Officers attend the road dedication Monday morning.

The intersection of South Carolina highways 9 and 410 was dedicated Monday morning to the first Horry County police officer killed in the line of duty, Lt. John Ronald Floyd.

Floyd was killed in a motor vehicle accident on June 25, 1986 while responding to a late night prowler call in the Green Sea section of Horry County.

In May, the South Carolina House of Representatives passed a resolution to allow the dedication.

The intersection will be called the Lieutenant John Ronald Floyd Intersection.
