SUMTER, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say no charges will be filed against relatives of a 2-year-old Rock Hill boy who drowned in a Sumter County pond.
Solicitor Ernest A. "Chip" Finney III said Friday he had made that decision after reviewing an investigation by the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
Coroner Harvin Bullock says Byron Barr died from accidental drowning on Nov. 11. Sheriff Anthony Dennis says deputies were called to a report of a missing child at around 1 p.m.
Dennis says it took about 20 minutes to find the child's body on top of the water about 200 feet from his home.
Dennis has said the child had been staying with his grandparents over the weekend. Authorities say they don't think any crime occurred.
