Horry County Fire Rescue will begin flying red flags at its fire stations throughout the county to warn residents when a Red Flag Alert is issued by the South Carolina Forestry Commission.

Red Flag Alerts are issued when dangerous wildfire conditions are present and outdoor burning could be difficult to control.

Red Flag Alerts do not prohibit outdoor burning, but residents are asked to voluntarily refrain from outdoor burning..

The Red Flag cautions that wildfire danger is increasing, and that outdoor burning could become difficult to control. A Red Flag Fire Alert does not prohibit outdoor burning as long as all other state and local regulations are followed. When a Red Flag Fire alert is in effect, Horry County Fire Rescue encourages residents to voluntarily postpone any outdoor burning.
