Railroad construction causes headaches for drivers and business owners

Pamplico Highway in Florence is blocked from South Irby to Church Streets as CSX repairs a railroad crossing.

There are detours around the streets.

Many drivers complain the detours are hard to understand making their commute much longer.

Some business owners say the construction is causing them to lose business.

"They don't know whether we're open or not or whether they can get into the parking lot. And if they come down the road and realize they can't get through then they may just say well I'll just go on somewhere else," said Jennifer Myers, Dent Doc Express.

The company says it's improving the rail network in the area.

CSX sent this statement to WPDE NewsChannel 15 regarding the construction:

"CSX maintenance crews are working their way down the tracks from crossing to crossing improving our rail network in your area. The company understands this work impacts the communities in which we operate, and we will make every effort to move through the region as safely and swiftly as possible. If all goes as planned, we will finish up by the end of the week. As you can imagine, weather and other factors, can also impact our schedule"
