Radio station name changes for just one day

MOVIN 94.5 is changing its name - just for Friday, April 27th - to JARROD 94.5.

The name change is in honor of Jarrod Danka, 11, who needs a kidney transplant.

To help the family, Friday has been named Jarrod Danka Transplant Day by the City of Myrtle Beach, and the Myrtle Beach Skywheel has a fundraiser planned.

MOVIN 94.5 is hoping the temporary name change will draw attention to the family's situation and encourage people to turnout for the event.

Jarrod had a transplant a few years ago, but he needs another one and the costs will be staggering.

At an event last month, Jarrod's mother, Tracey, told us they anticipate a million dollars in medical bills by the time Jarrod hits 18.

Jarrod's new kidney is being donated by Linda Dougherty. She belongs to the Waterbrook Community Church in North Myrtle Beach, where the Dankas are also members, but she barely knew the family. You can see more of Jarrod's story here:

The Skywheel's marketing manager,Tom Lorenz, says businesses are donating money and items to be used in a silent auction Friday night. At the adjacent Plyler Park, DJ's will play beach music and dance favorites.

The Shoreline Brass will be performing as one of the Bands, starting at 6 p.m.
