Horry County leaders will have to decide if they want to entertain the idea of a public shooting range.
A proposal for the shooting range was presented before the county's Public Safety Committee on Monday.
Currently, the biggest challenge for county leaders is to determine where to put the shooting range, according to Horry County Spokesperson Lisa Bourcier.
Five sites have been identified. However, a Solid Waste Authority tract of land off Highway 90 was identified as a top pick, after looking at certain criteria.
Bourcier says the cost of a shooting range is still a big unknown.
Not only that, but she says county leaders are tasked with who will fund the project. They have identified the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources as a possible funding source.
The idea of a shooting range will be brought up again at the next committee meeting next month.
