A prosecutor says no charges will be filed against York County jail personnel in the death of an inmate charged with killing his stepmother and neighbor last year.

The Herald of Rock Hill reported that prosecutor Kevin Brackett found no evidence of criminal conduct by the jail staff in the detention of 34-year-old Joshua Grose, who died last October of head injuries.

Authorities say Grose was combative with officers and repeatedly tried to hurt himself. When officers tried to put a helmet on Grose, they noticed a cut on the back of his head.

Paramedics were called but the cut did not require stitches and Grose was not taken to the hospital. He was in cardiac arrest when paramedics were called back about a half-hour later.
