Powerball reaches largest jackpot this year

The Powerball® jackpot rolled to its biggest payout this year, when no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Saturday night.

The jackpot for Wednesday night's drawing is an estimated $260 million.

For the winner, that spells $161 million in cash.

Should the jackpot run end in South Carolina, the Education Lottery has some important advice for the winner.

Immediately sign the back of your winning ticket.

Once signed, the ticket should be stored in a safe and secure location. The winner has 180 days from the date of the drawing to collect the prize and should use this time to seek legal and financial assistance.

"This is a life changing sum of money and should be managed accordingly," said the Lottery's Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea in a press release. "The winner should take their time and formulate a plan for the long term. There is no need to rush. The money isn't going anywhere and will be waiting for the winner to come forward."

For South Carolinians looking to take a chance on Wednesday night's jackpot drawing, Powerball® tickets must be purchased by 9:59 p.m. for the 10:59 p.m. drawing.

Powerball® tickets are $2 a piece and are available at lottery retailers statewide.
