      Power crews working on outages

While most power companies in our area are reporting no, or very few, outages, as of 5:30pm Friday, Santee Electric Cooperative has restored power to all but 180 customers. Santee Electric reports 20 outages in Florence County, 20 in Georgetown County, 120 in Williamsburg County, and 20 in Clarendon County. They expect to have all power restored sometime Saturday.

The ice on tree limbs and power lines in last week's storm caused widespread outages across the area.

Wednesday , Duke/Progress Energy, Santee Cooper, Horry Electric and Pee Dee Electric reported having no, or very few outages.

Pee Dee Electric Co-op reported they w ould send out 12 trucks and 15 linemen Tuesday to help Santee Electric Co-op to restore power.

Santee Electric says it has line crews from more than 7 states now working to help them restore power. The company says it has closed its district offices in Lake City, Georgetown, Hemingway and Manning in order to "maximize the use of employee resources." Many of those employees are now working at the company's main office in Kingstree, which is open to the public and is serving as command central during the restoration process.

Santee Electric says it comprises one of the largest geographic territories of any electric co-op east of the Mississippi River, and geography and terrain are hampering their efforts to restore power. "SEC provides power to some of the state's most rural areas-serving portions of Clarendon, Florence, Georgetown and Williamsburg counties. Low-lying wetlands, swamps and dense forests are all impediments for line crews working in the field," the company said in a release Monday.
